Our mission

What is your mission?

I take pride in being as transparent and raw with my artworks and poetry as humanly possible. I do my best to portray my life journey without succumbing to societal pressures of marketability or the haste judgements of others on what my work might mean. I am an open book, unapologetically expressing the story of my transcendence. Because my artworks are so real and personal to me, I invite my fans to join me, regardless of which stage I am on my journey.

MallMagick’s mission is simple: to provide the raw and unfiltered works of LV, where every piece is a testament to the beauty and dualistic nature of the human experience.

What are your core values?

My deepest values are centered around understanding our purpose on this planet: to witness, address, and celebrate; to unravel who we are and recreate ourselves; lose and gain in the process, taking with us pieces of the past and the truths that make us who we are today.

What does your logo mean?

The logo is my version of the alchemical symbol of Neptune which represents inspiration, imagination, and creativity. I tattooed it myself on my left hand in a drunken stupor in 2012. I don't regret it one bit.

Art process

How would you describe your art process?

For me, art is the dismantling of my ego, while feeding it simultaneously. As an interdisciplinary artist, largely inspired by the work of Carl Jung, I can't help but integrate psychoanalysis in some form or another within my work. Whether it's a depiction of duality, a comment on busyness, or the personalization of archetypes and the unseen, my art process relies heavily on communicating the things that are true and real to me, that I feel can and will help humanity in some form or another by simply reflecting it. This includes shadow work and delving deep into the uncomfortable parts of ourselves.

You create from various mediums. Which is your favorite and why?

My most enjoyable medium is installation. The freedom in this art process is unparalleled, in my opinion, to all other artforms. I say this because installation has no rules and no limitations on the product yet differs greatly from abstract painting and contemporary audio/visual because these forms rely heavily on aesthetics, form, and rules to a degree. One has to create, reflect, revise, and manipulate in order to create a compelling work. But with installation, it's far more spontaneous, at least in my experience, and you often only get one try to get it right. This piece could be horrific or thought-provoking; mesmerizing, or defiant. To be able to express and create temporal environments that depict concepts, boasts on exaggeration or ambiguity, paired with one's ability to make and utilize their "mistakes" as a form of expression in such a way that creates art, for me, is what it's all about.

Why do you have so many different styles?

What can I say? I enjoy variety. I, myself, feel like 100 people in one-- all with a different vibe, schema, and story to tell. Yes, it would be a lot easier to market myself if I primarily focused on one medium and style, but I can't do that. I work in series until I get bored, and as fast as I started one series, I also move on just as fast.

Is this all your work?

I have multiple artworks dating as far back as 2003 that aren’t shown in my portfolio. These artworks are in storage and are available for a private showing by request only. These include paintings; a short art film, "Chest Hump" which debuted at MOCA, Miami; digital and developed photography, & mixed media.

Why don't you have your paintings on your website?

I find that they hold a higher element of surprise when kept from the public's view. Any painting that I share on MallMagick.com was selected for being photogenetic.

Poetry

How can I learn more about the context of your poetry, Tapes in Drag: Poetry & Remorse and what formats do you offer?

I always welcome my audience to ask me any and all questions they have about my poetry at Hello@MallMagick.com. In the meantime, keep reading as more content and more books are published in order to find out how it all ends.

Tapes in Drag: Poetry & Remorse is currently available as an e-book for Apple, Kindle, Nook, and PDF, with options to pre-order your paperback and audiobook.

What is the background story of the title of your book: Tapes in Drag?

"Tapes in Drag" is the uncommon occurrence that GenX dealt with when the audio cassette gets stuck in the pinch roller and makes the music that you're listening to sound like you've accidentally opened the gates of Hades and are being visited by a down-pitched, slowly dying demon who has one last message to deliver just before you hit the eject button and ruin your tape forever. Thanks for asking!

You have described your poetry as a "diary of your ego-death." What does this mean?

A lot of my poetry is based on self-awareness and what it means to navigate within this reality in which I have lost my sense of "self" time and time again. I write about it as a comparative analysis of my past and future versions of myself, where I have been and where I'm going.

When can we expect your next poetry book, and what can we expect from it?

I am currently in the process of writing multiple books, including The Major Arcana, a metaphorical development of the trump cards of Tarot which depict the "fool's journey" in poetry from start to finish; Called by Name: Liber LVF.LVX, a collection of poems regarding my initiations and divine interventions; A Tribute to the Mundane, satirical poetry, as well as a few nonfiction books, including Plague, Prayer, and Magick; and Love, Sex or Some Kind of Witchcraft.

The books are all memoir-based and written solely on my interpretations and recollection of certain life changing events. The purpose is not only to tell my story, but to facilitate transcendence in whatever means possible.

What is the backstory on your Instagram account?

I created my Instagram account in 2012, back when Instagram was non-competitive & offered much more artistic value than its current state. Instagram was much more bout blogging, in the now, with lot of it being raw & unedited, minus the #vsco filter that started an organic community of amateur and rising photographers, outsiders, and adventurers, all excited to share their story rather than a product or service. I've doubled down on this approach and vow to keep the essence of storytelling my primary goal-- to connect with others who resonate and share in my vision. With that said, I'm bringing back my original style of muted grayscale photography, and the essence of longing.

I am a journalist / podcast and would love to interview you. What is the best way to reach you?

Thank you! I appreciate a good interview. Feel free to reach me via the Media Inquiry Form here.

What is your name?

Great question! I am known my many names. You can call me LV, although some know me by my first name or middle name, and that’s ok, too! But, due to there being so many people with my same birth name, especially in Miami where I was raised, I had to come up with something different, original, and meaningful. That’s where LVF.LVX comes in. LVF are my initials, and LVX represents the new aeon. Together, it is a representation of Love and Light.

As of March 2024, I dropped the ‘F’ for various personal reasons— dealing with family and its associations to ‘failure,’ so be sure to hold on to your pieces signed LVF, as they may actually be worth something some day! This also goes for my pen name: L.V. Ferrer, which I will be dropping in the upcoming editions of Tapes in Drag: Poetry & Remorse and all future books, and replacing it with my artist’ name.
